IIT Madras Quick Update

IIT Madras is an autonomous institute for Engineering located in Madras, India. Consistently, IIT Madras holds has been ranked 1st under the engineering category fourth time in a row by the NIRF. The institute has also secured 255th rank in the QS World University Rankings of 2023. IIT Madras admission 2023 is open for the B.S in Data Science program. IIT Madras has 17 departments, 14 research centres, and a Continuing Education Programs Centre (CEP). All of the centres offer 121 courses in Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Management. IIT Madras has signed MOUs with a number of foreign universities for student exchange programs. As per the MoUs signed, students pursuing UG, PG, and Dual Degree programs at the institute spend a semester abroad for broad exposure. In addition, the institute also offers Joint Doctoral Programs (JDPs) in collaboration with 17 foreign universities. The institute also provides an AICTE-sponsored Quality Improvement Program (QIP).

Out of the 121 courses offered by IIT Madras, BTech and Online Degree program has the highest popularity. BTech is the flagship program of the institute. Admission to the course is done on the basis of rank obtained in the JEE Advanced exam. The minimum rank required for the IIT Madras BTech program is 85 to 4000. The annual fee for the BTech program is INR 2.05 Lacs. 

IIT Madras Online Degree is India's first online program in Data Science and Programming. Admission to the degree program is based on Qualifier exam score. The candidates appearing for the Qualifier exams are required to score aggregate 50% marks in the exam. IIT Madras offers more than 100 courses through Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Research degrees. The courses offered are in the streams of Engineering, Sciences, Humanities, and Management. IIT Madras BTech

The BTech program at IIT Madras is placed in the first position by the NIRF. The program is specialized in 9 streams. The total intake capacity of the IIT Madras BTech program is 877 seats. The per semester fee for the program is INR 1,00,550. The BTech program gives a good return on investment. For the INR 8.08 Lacs of the fee for the whole program, the students get an average salary package of INR 20 LPA in the placement process. The most opted branch of the BTech program is the CSE. 

The cutoff for the IIT Madras CSE is highest among all the streams. The cutoff rank for the course is 85-163 in the JEE Advanced exam. The placement rate of the CSE branch is 84%. IIT Madras BTech Cutoff 2023 will be released soon by JoSAA. Admissions will be granted on the basis of cutoff marks for respective specialization of the BTech program. IIT Madras MTech

IIT Madras 2-year MTech program is specialized in 35 streams. Admission to the M.Tech program is based on the 500-700 GATE scores followed by a written test and personal interview conducted by the institute. IIT graduates who have a CGPA of 8.0 and above can also apply without GATE scores. IIT Madras MTech Cutoff 2023 (Expected)

IIT Madras PhD

IIT Madras PhD is a 5 year program currently offered in 5 departments, namely, Engineering, Science, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Management. For admission to the research program, candidates with 60% aggregate marks, a Master’s degree in a relevant field, and a valid GATE or UGC-JRF/NET/CSIR-JRF score can apply for admission. Candidates with a master’s degree from IITs with a CGPA of 8.0 and above can apply directly for admission. IIT Madras Online Courses

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has introduced a substitute for Online Degrees. The substitute allows students to study for an undergraduate degree or diploma anywhere in India. The program has no limits on age and academic background. The programs offered under the IIT Madras Online Courses/ Degree include Foundation + Diploma in Programming or Foundation + Diploma in Data Science and B.Sc in Programming and Data Science. The basic eligibility criteria for these programs require a student to have studied Mathematics and English in their 10 and should have previously/ currently enrolled in any of the bachelor's degree programs or diplomas.

The interested students can enroll in the online courses either via regular mode or diploma-only entry. Students registering via regular mode are required to join at the Foundation level, which consists of 8 courses. Students registering at the Diploma Only Entry cannot proceed with their diploma towards the BSc degree.

IIT Madras Scholarships 

To encourage meritorious students and help needy students with financial support, IIT Madras offers different types of scholarships and fee waivers. There are several schemes available for financial assistance by alumni, companies, Govt. of India, and institute at IITM. The following scholarships are famous among IITM students.

• Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarships: IITM offers up to 67% tuition fee exemption to only 25% of students admitted. Students whose annual parental income is less than INR 4.5 Lakhs are eligible to apply for MCM scholarships. Also, the subject of renewing this scholarship is a minimum GPA of 5.0 in the previous semester.
• Institute Free Studentship: Likewise MCM scholarship, IIT Madras offers a free studentship for the students whose annual parental income is less than INR 4,50,000 lakhs. Students are exempted from the payment of 67% of the tuition fee under this scheme. However, the scholarship is only offered to 25% of the UG students.
• Institute Notional Prize:  On the basis of the JEE rank and annual parental income not exceeding INR 4,50,000, IITM offers a one-time grant of INR 1000 to the 7% of the students admitted.
• SC/ST Scholarship: IITM offers renewable institute SC/ST scholarship especially for the students belonging from SC/ST categories whose annual parental income doesn’t exceed INR 4,50,000. Students under this scheme are offered tuition fee exemption along with a free messing and monthly pocket allowance of INR 250.

  Admission to the M.Tech program will be granted on the basis of a valid score in the GATE examination.

  IIT Madras MBA Admissions 2023

  IIT Madras offers a full-time MBA program for a duration of 2 years. The institute offers MBA program in the following 6 specializations i.e Finance, HR & OB, Information Systems, Integrative Management, Marketing, and Operations.

  IIT Madras MBA Eligibility

• Graduates in any discipline from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) or 6.0 CGPA on a 10 point scale or equivalent in the qualifying degree.
• A relaxation of 5% in marks (i.e. min. 55%) or equivalent will be granted in CGPA (i.e. min. 5.50 on a 10-point scale) for the SC/ST candidates.

• IIT Madras MBA Selection Criteria

  Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of a valid score in the CAT Examination. Only those who are shortlisted by the respective institute will be invited to the interview process (the Written Ability Test and Personal Interview). Foreign Candidates require GMAT Score for admission to the MBA program. 

  Graduates in any discipline with a valid CAT score and at least two years of work experience in the same organization can apply under sponsored category through the proper channel.

  IIT Madras MA Admission 2023

  Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Madras offers a full-time Integrated MA program for a duration of 2 years. Information about the MA program at IIT Madras is tabulated below:

  IIT Madras MA Eligibility

  Candidates belonging to the General, GEN-EWS and OBC-NCL category must secure a minimum of 60% aggregate marks at 10+2 level. Candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwD categories must secure a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.

  IIT Madras MA Selection Criteria

  Admission to MA program offered by IIT Madras will be granted on the basis of a valid score in HSEE Exam.

  The HSEE Entrance Examination is conducted by IIT for Admission to its MA program.  HSEE-2022 has two parts: Part I and Part II. Syllabus for Part 1 consists of English (25% marks of Part I), Analytical and Quantitative Ability (25% marks of Part I), and General Studies (in four sub-parts; 50% marks of Part I). Part II involves essay writing.

  The result of HSEE is released in the form of merit list and not in a cutoff format. So the average minimum marks required for candidates belonging to different categories are as follows

  For admission to the MA program, aspirants are required to fill the HSEE Application Form by visiting the IIT Madras Website. The steps to fil the application form are given below:

  IIT Madras offers a two-year Executive MBA (EMBA) program which is designed for mid-career working professionals. Admissions to the program are offered through an entrance and interview conducted by the institute.
